The difference in magnitude of one’s mistakes lies in the time between feeling an emotional complex and the time they make a decision regarding that. Impulses can be steadied by adding a 20-minute cooldown to every consequential decision, or at the very least, take 2-3 breaths and notice the tug of the monkey brain. You do make a conscious decision as to whether you heed the impulse, most have merely setup a default for yes so quickly that it is perceived as being controlled by them. Slow it down, there is plenty of time in the moment, slowing it down allows for a better adjustment of course, and the space to notice these smaller things that hold themselves over, and bear witness to us. Sometimes, it is a night’s sleep to process until a decision can be made, other times it is 2-3 night’s sleep and deep introspection. Slow it down.
Meditate.
