The use of evidence to construct beliefs in the modern age holds itself merely as an abstract contract of responsibility. We choose what we believe and do so foregoing rationality. The ‘evidence’ we assign to ‘back up’ our beliefs is used to abdicate one’s responsibility should it prove that their belief served against them or was favoured to be flawed. As certainty exists only for the lack of itself, each ‘fact’ or ‘belief’ is merely a contract to run say a 95-99% chance that reality shall continue to operate in this way. Should that change, one can resort to the evidence as to point the blame and to move away from any of it themselves. Knowing this, one can choose the beliefs that serve them in the best possible light and forego the need for evidence so long as it serves the better and more ideal goal.
