Suppressing is a bodily function meant to delay the process of an emotion until there is space to do so safely. Within the modern world, what defines a ‘safe space’ is forever changing. What once was an open plain with zero lions about is now a rage room, or loved one’s arms. For which the lion’s chase is now the boss’s rage.

There is merit to be said that suppression can also come in the form of replacing what one truly feels, with how they think they should be feeling. In all cases of either, the one in question has force-stopped the emotional process of:

1. External/Internal Stimuli that is allowed to form an emotional response

2. Emotion

3. Feeling for the emotion (or meta-emotion)

4. Acceptance of the emotion and feeling

5. Processing of the emotion and feeling

6. Letting go of the emotion and feeling

Emotion stands for E-motion, or rather:

Energy In Motion

Having blocked the energy in motion, it must be allowed to complete its cycle, for the body is equipped to do so, with 1, 2, 3, 4, maybe up to 5-6 e-motional cycles at once. Chronic suppression leaves the body, mind, and heart with hundreds if not 10s of thousands of emotional cycles incomplete. The stress and added consequence of one more and another and another piling higher to the sky builds those depressive states and numbness. A boiling pot, ready to explode. The energy must be allowed to complete its cycle, to then be released, thus lowering the charge on our self.
